Link Effectively – Saturday Sharefest

Welcome to the weekly blogging tip and comment game! This week I’m talking about writing effective links in your posts.

When you want to insert a link in your blog post, it’s important to consider your anchor text — the words people click on to get where the link goes. Search engines pay attention to that text and use it to determine relevance and authority for both your blog and the blog you link to. Using descriptive anchor text tells the search engines what to expect on the site you are linking to and may give that site a higher rank in search engine results. This helps you build strong relationships with other bloggers who may ultimately link back to you.

Instead of this (links in bold):
“Click here to read Kate’s video game review.”

Try this:
“Kate’s video game review will tell you more.”

Keyword-rich anchor text is also important to use when linking inside your own blog (linking from your current post to a past post). Carefully crafting your link wording helps accurately interconnect the web and makes for a better user experience.
