New to SITS? Welcome!! Go read this to get started.
When you first start a blog, you’re on fire. You post almost every day, comment on lots of other blogs, find your tribe, and participate in memes. But as time passes, your enthusiasm might slip and life occasionally (often?) gets in the way. You find yourself posting a few times a month and then blogging about how you’re not blogging. Sound familiar?
We all lose our mojo from time to time. Here are some tips for keeping the blogging fires burning bright:
- Get your ideas down. How many times have you had an idea for a blog post, then lost it before you had the time to sit down and flesh it out into a post? Keep a notebook with you at all times to jot down your thoughts and ideas. Type post drafts whenever you can so you can come back to them and develop them when you have time.
- Make the time. Work hard to follow some sort of routine. If your goal is to be a professional blogger, what you really want to be is a professional writer. That means you have to make the time to work at the craft of writing, even when you might not want to. Decide when, where, and how often you can make the time to write, then do it.
- Write for your readers. Don’t think “What do I want to blog about?”, think “What do my readers want to read about?” Answer a question or address a comment. Revisit an idea that got your lots of comments in the past. Help your readers solve a problem, and they’ll be loyal followers for years to come.

I use a notebook, but I also start writing posts on blogger and save them for later. When I’m ready to start writing about it, I copy/paste what I wrote into a new post so that it will be a current post and not get buried under the newer ones.

I start writing out my ideas as drafts and save them. Then I get back to them when I can. That said, this blog incarnation is relatively new… my last two blogs were about my children and were always easy to write. This is different, and I’m not sure where I’ll end up yet!

Recently I’ve been updating my blog more than usual. For me browsing the internet aimlessly is the best help with coming up with material to post.

These are some great tips. As a writer before I becamse a blogger, I’ve always kept notebooks and journals – problem is I’m still woefully disorganised and can easily lose track of where I’ve jotted down what! Finding that structure and routine seems to be the key to success and something I’m still working at.

Some days blogging gets more of my time than my kids, my husband or my house. When I decided I wanted to really really blog I had no idea how much time and effort goes into it all. The content, editing, researching, promoting, commenting, networking.
But I really do enjoy it…. the process of finding your voice.

Even writing a blog that’s all about handmade, sometimes I get a little stuck. Since I love shopping, I usually have *something* to say about my blog’s topic. My first time here. I write copious pages daily in a journal. I enjoy blogging but there is also something wonderful about writing something completely private (for now) and also something handwritten on paper. Here’s my latest post (in which I admonish my children to write)

I’m constantly jotting down ideas for new posts. It’s a great way to keep on keepin’ on. If I’m low on inspiration, I can just glance at my list of post ideas, and usually that gets me writing again.

More great tips! I’ve seen/heard this from many bloggers when they seem to lose their spark. Some times they started out as one type of blogger and decided to change the direction of their blog along the way. It just seems to be a natural course for any blogger.
I am always jotting down ideas. I keep a small notebook in my purse for random blogging ideas. I’ll take pictures with my cell phone/camera if I happen to see something that strikes an idea. Plus, I keep a notebook in the car in case I happen to chance upon a free moment to write. I also send myself e-mails with ideas for blog posts. But, since I prefer to type/draft my pieces on the computer, I have a folder full of my blog posts. Some are ideas in the works. Whenever I need inspiration, I’ll browse through that file for something to blog about.
