New to SITS? Welcome!! Go read this to get started.
When you first start a blog, you’re on fire. You post almost every day, comment on lots of other blogs, find your tribe, and participate in memes. But as time passes, your enthusiasm might slip and life occasionally (often?) gets in the way. You find yourself posting a few times a month and then blogging about how you’re not blogging. Sound familiar?
We all lose our mojo from time to time. Here are some tips for keeping the blogging fires burning bright:
- Get your ideas down. How many times have you had an idea for a blog post, then lost it before you had the time to sit down and flesh it out into a post? Keep a notebook with you at all times to jot down your thoughts and ideas. Type post drafts whenever you can so you can come back to them and develop them when you have time.
- Make the time. Work hard to follow some sort of routine. If your goal is to be a professional blogger, what you really want to be is a professional writer. That means you have to make the time to work at the craft of writing, even when you might not want to. Decide when, where, and how often you can make the time to write, then do it.
- Write for your readers. Don’t think “What do I want to blog about?”, think “What do my readers want to read about?” Answer a question or address a comment. Revisit an idea that got your lots of comments in the past. Help your readers solve a problem, and they’ll be loyal followers for years to come.
And, as always, when you see this:

Thanks, Tiffany!! Finally switched to WordPress (what took me soooo long?!?) and that definitely helped the mojo. Yes, SITStahs she’s been saying that for a while Got my Sony Bloggie Duo and I lovelovelove it (many thanks to Sony for sponsoring the SITS Seattle Bloggy Boot Camp and turning us vloggers on to this awesome product. Another tip to add to the list, Tiffany . . . new toys helped me get my mojo back!

I keep a small idea book in my purse and jot down ideas as I get them. It also helped that I created a mind map of my blog before I even started blogging. I can always refer back to my mind map for ideas.
I’m definitely keeping on a schedule and I currently aim to publish twice a week- Tuesdays and Fridays. Though I missed Tuesday this week due to being sick. I really want to get some batch articles written so I have back-ups when I am sick or on vacation.
The one thing I have not done so far is write for the reader. I write about topics that come up for me. I still consider my blog newish, and I honestly don’t think I know what my readers want to read. I tried asking that exact question, of course, and didn’t get any responses. Perhaps when my blog has a bigger following I can get more questions and/or topics from readers.
A lot of my most popular posts have surprised me, and they aren’t always what I think so for now I’ll write about whatever I have in my idea book, and build on reader interest when I have more data.
Thanks for the great tips!
