New to SITS? Welcome!! Go read this to get started.
So, we interrupt our regularly scheduled feature today to talk about something.
Today is NOT about roll call, but it is about support.
For those of you who haven’t heard or read, the New York Times ran a piece this Sunday about mommy bloggers.
And, about Bloggy Boot Camp.
It’s titled Honey, Don’t Bother Mommy, I am too Busy Building My Brand {we thought long and hard about even linking to it, as even though Tiffany is referred to AND quoted, SITS has no link, plus, the last thing we want to do is give them page views. BUT, you deserve to form an opinion with all the info.}
Below we have linked up some of the responses to the article.
We encourage you to take the time and read the posts and comment. Become part of the conversation.
Tiffany Honey, I Just Want to Connect Women.
Heather It’s Heather-speak, for “I’m a little miffed.”
Jessica Gottlieb Don’t Bother Mommy, She’s Rabid Right Now.
Liz, Mom 101 Honey, Don’t Bother Mommy, I am writing a Mildly Annoyed Letter to the NY Times.
Kelby Carr Newspaper Bias Against Mom Bloggers
Mama Kat Honey, Don’t Bother with the NY Times. They Are Too Busy Slamming Your Mommy.
Angela England Blogging and Motherhood- Success is Not Limited to One or the Other.
Francesca, Mayhem & Moxie And Then There Was the Time I Sounded Like an Ass in the New York Times.
We know there are even more well-written responses out there – in fact, there is an entire facebook group dedicated to this topic.
So there you have it.
Of course, tomorrow, we return to our regularly scheduled Featured Blogger!
We adore you all.
Big Time.
xoxo

There’s a lot of solidarity that has come about first due to the awesome-ness of Tiffany and the great Bloggy Boot Camp, and now because of this New York Times article.
Tiffany quipped at the conference that “Once you have a blog hater, you know you’ve made it.” Well, we have a blog community hater in the New York Times…which, by Tiffany’s argument, means we’ve made it!
(Trying to look at the positive here.)

We have an amazing community and it’s too bad the NYT is too daft to see the power behind women and instead wants to mock the brand power that’s being built. SITSAS, as we love you!
Happy Monday

Hmmm I didn’t see this article. I’ll give it a read.
Have a great Monday everybody, in spite of being slagged off by the NY Times. Stupid NY Times, what do they know.

It was so great to open my Sunday NY Times to the article featuring SITS…until I read the title and fluff piece following it. The responses to the article have been so fantastic and it made me even more proud to be a part of this incredible community of women.
I support SITS. I support my SITStas. And I support all mom bloggers. Keep doing what you’re doing, ladies.

I’m heading off to read what all the talk is about.
I posted some advice from a dad who recently lost two sons.

Interesting – I love that it was a mom blogger who wrote that and then LINKED to herself! Hysterical…

Can’t wait to read what everyone had to say about this! Happy Monday!

Okay, now I read the article. Twice. And I’m going to speak up here, even at risk of becoming the black sheep.
I didn’t find that article the least bit offensive.
My perception was that Jennifer was promoting Tiffany’s enthusiasm and her “down-to-earth”ness. Because as much as people have stereotypes about mommy bloggers, they probably have a few more about mommy bloggers who run one of the biggest networks for women bloggers.
“Whereas so-called mommy blogs were once little more than glorified electronic scrapbooks, a place to share the latest pictures of little Aidan and Ava with Great-Aunt Sylvia in Omaha, they have more recently evolved into a cultural force to be reckoned with.”
That hardly sounds like a put down. In fact, the information she gives regarding the conference (including quotes from Tiffany) sound very much like they align with the ideas in this article.
I imagine Jennifer was pointing out the impact that technology (particularly social media) has had on the way moms connect with one another. And the way moms are creative enough to bring in some extra cash!
And I, for one, see that more as a compliment.
.-= Brandy´s last post: Free Dog. =-.
Grrr…the NYT is supposed to be a “reputable” newspaper.
Apparently, mommies aren’t allowed any time for themselves. Hate to hear what they’d have to say about scrapbookers.

I’m not a mommy, but I am a blogger and I read many many many of the mommy blogs because let’s face it, kids are freaking hilarious!
I’m really surprised that the ‘administration’ isn’t telling the NYTs to pound it into the heads how worthwhile mommy blogging is … and how it gives us all HOPE and crap for the future of stay at home workers or some such nonsense.
What I know though is that all these women are bright, motivated, and wonderful mothers. Without the outlet of the blog, the ‘me’ time it gives these women, I’m afraid we’d have a Prozac Mommy Nation, and that just makes for bad breast milk my friends!
blessings to you all! screw the NYTs and their non-understanding of normal regular folks. They need to go back to writing about serial killers and celebraties!
.-= SweetPeaSurry´s last post: =-.
Ugh! This sounds harsh. Regardless of what it says, I plan on attending BBC in Austin! I can’t wait to hear more about it!
Unlike the men (and women!) who are addicted to: video games, online gambling, facebook, twitter, sports etc. They don’t ignore their kids at all…
I would so blog about this but I have a restless child who needs my attention! Back to school tomorrow after a week of spring break and she can’t sleep. Stupid time change…
hey girls happy monday! my latest blog is about trashy TV

You know I’m not a “mommy blogger” I’m a “food blogger,” and a “+50 blogger” so I think I’ll just stand over here in the corner, keep my mouth shut and say I hope y’all have a great week!! It’s been gorgeous and spring-like down south – FINALLY. It’s short lived here before the heat comes on full strength.
As a writer, I do have to give journalistic kudos to the author of that article for her choice of title. It was meant to invoke some dialogue and no doubt it has and will!

I read the NY Times article and the follow-up piece that allowed comments. I was glad to see attention being paid to female bloggers and I hope we continue to get press from the mainstream media.
I also hope that as they continue to write about us, they will recognize that not all female bloggers are mommy bloggers. I am a mom and a blogger but I don’t necessarily use both in the same sentence. I don’t read much about daddy bloggers so the “mommyfication” (lol my newly invented word) of the genre makes me wonder…
Anyhow, I think every blogger should read it and form his/her own opinion. There is plenty in the article to ponder. I must add that one good thing that came out of that article was the reminder that I needed to connect with this site.
A friend introduced me to this site a couple of weeks ago and I had forgotten about it until the article came out.
Kudos Tiffany and Heather.
All the best to all the bloggers everywhere!
Cheers,
E

I’m fuming about that article!
I was just reading about this on Twitter. Craziness.
Moms catch slack for everything – dropping their careers to stay home, keeping their careers and using daycare, not having kids, you name it, there is someone out there that is trying to knock us down for one reason or another.
We all truly do just need support. Period.
.-= Lisa´s last post: Now that we have (another) 2 year old… =-.
the tone of the article is very disappointing indeed. why can’t women just share and bond and support without someone running them down? i think the low point was when she flogged her own blog!

I found the tone of this article to be slighty judgmental and condescending. In my opinion, the title set a negative tone for the whole article. Maybe the writer purposely wanted to start a little controversy?

Interaction with others going through the same stuff is what has made the world go round, since the earth had its corners scraped. Now, sharing is done online.
Attack is always the first move for people who need to validate their own lives or wish they had thought of the same idea. I wouldn’t give the writer of the article a second thought. Perhaps because I’m way past 30ish, I didn’t see so much attack as just presentation of what’s new in young mother’s lives.
When I worked out of my home, there was any number of people who discounted what I did because they had ‘real’ jobs. If you’re finding a way to bring extra money into your home, double your joys and halve your sorrows by sharing the load, more power to you! And, please, keep on blogging, SITStas…

I wasn’t at Bloggy Boot Camp so I can’t comment on what she wrote about the conference. In my opinion, the harshest words were about the event tho. I really couldn’t understand how the writer feels about mommy bloggers (including herself). The article made some good points and had positive things to say about the blogging community. But then there were splashes of rude and condescending comments. In my opinion, some people are getting too worked up over some of the comments, reposting them out of context. The headline however is absolutely horrible. At least the article getting people talking.

I learnt a lesson in keeping things in perspective and blogged about it today.
I don’t know if I feel like what she actually wrote is offensive, but the tone she wrote in and how she comes across sure is. She did prove that this is a pretty awesome community of ladies who believe in supporting one another and not letting others tear them down
