A Look Back: 31 Days To Build A Better Blog

New to SITS? Welcome!! Go read this to get started.

Hello and welcome to the weekend!

As we near the half-way point of our 31 Days to Build a Better Blog Challenge, we thought we would take today to quickly summarize the events that happened in the SITS Girls Community on BlogFrog over the past week.  If you are playing along, or even just checking in from time to time, the below posts are a great resource to learn more about blogging and connect with your fellow SITStahs.

Day 6: We relaxed a bit with a long reading list of articles.  All were chosen to help us improve our content.

Day 7: We were challenged to write a link post as a way to grow our blog.  Angela from Always B Designs offered readers some of her favorite resources for working at home, while the Crayon Wrangler got creative (and stinkin’ hilarious) with links to her favorite blogs.

Day 8: We discovered the importance of inter-linking posts within our blog.  Bad Mom Confessions not only inter-links her posts with expertise, but she gives out advice in a weekly feature that allows us to confess our failures as moms and understand that we are not alone.

Day 9: We joined a forum (like BlogFrog!) in order to figure out where the potential readers in our niche are gathering on-line.

Day 10: We learned how and why to set up alerts to monitor what is happening in our niche.  As a fashion blogger, Day 10’s tip is important to someone like Charmed Valerie who, without staying in the know, wouldn’t be able to keep us updated on how to be fashionable this fall without spending a ton of money.

Day 11: We worked hard to come up with 10 post ideas using a process called mind mapping.

Day 12: We developed an editorial calendar so that we can avoid the pitfalls of writer’s block going forward.  Adrienne from No Points for Style showed us that even when we stare at the computer for far too long, wondering what to write about, we can turn to the truth and share the raw emotions we feel as parents.

Which brings us to Day 13!  Today is field trip day in the BlogFrog when we take a break from the computer and head to the local mall.  Shopping is a good thing.  Check it out!

31 Days to Build a Better Blog Challenge: Week 3 Wrap-Up
ProBlogger Summer Challenge Weekly Wrap-Up

I signed on for the 31DBBB challenge because I have a blogger blog sorely in need of help. The 31DBBB was fantastic when I used it to help this WordPress blog get off its feet and I knew/still know it would help my blogspot blog tremendously.
This time around, I had a road trip and an accident derail my efforts but I’m getting back on track. Like life, we go through the peaks and valleys and keep moving forward.
    Happy SITS Saturday share fest!

      Hi Jane,
That post was really interesting. I think it’s a great idea. I don’t think they’re talking about friends in the conventional sense – we don’t buy or rent intimate friends. But I consider my hairdresser my friend. I tell her everything. But only when I’m sitting in her chair paying her for her services. So, I think there’s a market for this type of rent-a-friend service.

Gorgeous Saturday here – yay! Must tear myself away from my computer and get some sunshine!

Still loving the #31DBBB challenge! Everyone is doing such a great job, and the sense of community and helpfulness has really been astounding!

    Peace. 😉

I’m doing this challenge but I’m only at day 6. Trying to make my way through the articles :). This challenge has been very helpful to me, I would highly recommend it.

There are a few people in the comments today who are considering starting now or are only on day 5 or 6…it would be cool if you guys could connect and work through it together.

  4. says

Great posts! I like to read new blogs & find out what i can do to improve. (it would be awfully nice if you’d drop in & leave me a comment letting me know)

I hope everyone has a great safe weekend!

I’ve been on the computer WAYYYYY too long this morning, and now Francesca has given me lots of awesome links I missed earlier to check out. Guess the laundry can wait!

  6. says

I’m hoping to spend this afternoon catching up on the challenge. The whole house is sick which is no fun but I’m going to escape the house of pain for some alone time :)

Saturday at last! Been working hard on my blog. Some days it seems like a part time job. A really, really low paying part time job LOL.

  8. says

All these challenge posts are great! I’m in a crazy busy season of life right now, so there is no way I could commit to participating, but thanks to y’all being so generous sharing the links and ideas I’m still learning new things.

    Happy Saturday y’all!

You’d have some catching up to do…if I were you I would just jump in and do it at your own pace. The forums and helpful tips will always be there to refer to.

    • says

Not at all, Jen. Everyone is welcome to work through the challenge at their own pace. No need to keep up with the daily tasks and definitely not too late to start!

    have a great weekend everyone!

  10. says

It’s a beautiful day today! So glad to have read all of the great tips! Thanks for sharing them! Have a wonderful Saturday all!

  11. says

Love this challenge! Wish I could have taken the month of work to really delve in.

The most important thing I learned (setting up Google alerts)is that I share my name with porn star, Daisy Marie Young, and her stuff is way more interesting to people than mine.

  12. says

Happy saturday sharefest ladies!!! Yes, these tips are amazing – thanks for sharing!! I had an entire week of giveaways this week, so all my posts this week are amazing!!

  13. says

Happy Saturday! I wish I could have participated in the challenge. I’ll try to catch up by reading all the wonderful tips.

For anyone that’s interested, I’m doing a Kung Zhu, Zhu Zhu pets giveaway.

    Take care!

Can I just say what an awesome thing you ladies are doing here. I love this Problogger challenge, and I’m learning so much. Today, I’m going to the beach with the family instead of the mall but I’m sure I’ll find plenty of inspiration there too:)

My favorite post this week from a fellow 31DBBB blogger is from Little Bit Quirky where she shares her Inner Demons, when having a not so great day with her autistic daughter. So honest, raw, and a little heartbreaking. She is just awesome in my book.

  15. says

Once all my trips are completed, I’m looking forward to hopping into the 31 Days with both feet!

    Have a great weekend everyone.

  16. says

I’m always thinking of ways that I can improve my blog.
I wouldn’t like Day 13’s assignment too much since I hate the mall. I avoid that like the plague, I hate shopping.

My daughter and I will be going swimming soon. She’s really excited about that, and so am I. It looks like I’ll be doing more aqua jogging. When she gets tired of playing, she holds on while I run in the pool. :)

    In the spirit of sharing…
One of the best posts I’ve read was by Monkey Bird. Maira is a lovely person, so do check out her post if you have the time. :) It’s titled, My Wolf (My lupus story)

  17. says

Happy Saturday morning…I’ll admit that I’m still struggling to catch up on the challenge. I don’t know how y’all find time for it between work and the rest of your life!

  18. says

I love this! I just joined recently following a link through another member’s blog and this place is amazing! In a few days I have learned so many things and implemented them! I’ve also met so many great people, and in such a short time I am already getting more comments! I will be reviewing ALL of these great ideas. Thanks so much ladies!

Wonderful news, Agata! We LOVE getting such great feedback. Glad that your are liking being a part of SITS.

It’s comments like these that keep us going.

    • says

Don’t mind Francesca…she’s not even really pregnant. It’s just an excuse she uses to take a day off every once in awhile.

  19. says

Happy SITS saturday, can’t wait to see everyone’s fave posts of the week. Off to go relocate mine… there were a lot!

  20. says

happy saturday! i’m not participating as life at the moment has me doing other things, but i enjoy the links and will hopefully use them in the future!

    have a great day!

  21. says

Weird that there are not 100-200 comments in front of me. I want to have a better blog, but first I am working on building a better life. Finishing moving today. And think I am going to get a good cup of coffee. Later.

  22. says

Happy Saturday Everyone! I haven’t had a chance to read blog posts this morning yet (I’m a bit behind) but I’ll come back and link up my favorites when I do!

  23. says

Not sure how I’m first at 9:11 am but I won’t knock it. I am definitely reviewing all of these suggestions and and hints and taking notes. Thanks so much for sharing this.
