Dani from I’m Just That Way and That’s Just Me describes herself as “A sassy mother warrior from Los Angeles raising a very sweet little girl with Autism in the Midwest”.

How long have you been blogging and what inspired you to start?
It’s been a little more than 2 1/2 years now. I grew up in Los Angeles and now I’m living in the Midwest. So, at first, it was a way to show my friends and family back home what life was like here (look, it snows here! tornado sirens! cider mills!). Then it took on a life of it’s own!

You write a bit about your little girl who happens to be Autistic, what can you share with us about that?

My daughter, whom I call Little Bird has Autism. I talk a lot about life with my gorgeous, sweet, fabulous little girl who just happens to have a disability. Giving people a little glimpse into this life promotes awareness and (hopefully) compassion. People with Autism are just like everyone else- sometimes just a little flappier!

What advice do you have to offer mothers who are just now receiving the same diagnosis?

Don’t hide it! Reach out, find others in the same boat. You are not alone. It’s not always pretty, but together, it gets so much better!!

Does your family read your blog? How supportive are they?

My family is awesome. They do read my blog and I’m pretty sure they fight over who gets to be my #1 fan!

In what way have you benefited most from blogging?

I’ve made so many friends through blogging. I’ve had the chance to meet a few in real life, too. It’s quite cathartic putting all your “stuff” out there for the world to see. After months of not talking about it, I recently shared that I’m going through a divorce. The support I’ve received from people everywhere is so great and even overwhelming (and yes, sometimes even a little creepy!).
