Joining us today is Bookjunkie, a blogger that comes to us all the way from Singapore! If you are anything like me, you are going to love reading her tales of food, culture, and another way of life in a far away place!
I love reading blogs from outside the US. Tell us a little bit about where you live and why your blog name is significant.
My blog is named Tiny Island because Singapore really is tiny and we’re an island. We have no cities or states. Our whole country is the city as well.
Describe a typical day in your world.
Right now I am unemployed, so I spend a lot of time reading and blogging. My wish is to become a writer, so I stared blogging to get the writing machine going. So far the women bloggers I have met have been nothing but supportive.
What do you love most about living in Singapore? What would you change if you could?
I love that my family is here and this just feels like home although I do get wanderlust at least once a year and yearn to escape to a less crowded place. One superficial thing I would change in Singapore is the weather. It’s just too darn hot and humid for me even though most people who come here love the perpetual summer. I am a winter person and although I’ve only seen snow once I fell in love immediately. I was like a child again. I would also love if we had real freedom of speech.
I see that you are a celebrity gossip fan like me. Who do you love to read about?
I love catching up on celebrity baby gossip. I confess, I’m a total addict. Photos of cuties like the Jolie-Pitts, Suri Cruise, Olive Cohen and Sean Preston Federline make my ovaries sigh. They are just too darn cute and Suri Cruise is such a fashionista.

What a neat blog!
Thanks Angie…I am turning in my late dad…and I am thrilled by it π miss him so
Great blog! Always fun to read about another land… off to check it out!
your children are so close in age….how do you manage? I am truly inspired by your adoption story and am going to check out your blog. Love your photos of our cute boys. Cool blog name too.
Happy SITs Day to this lovely lady!!
Off to check out her blog. =)
Thanks Terri π
Love the pictures and can’t wait to go check out her posts. I can’t imagine not having true freedom of speech but hope is able to be free on her blog! I like winter, too; don’t like being hot all the time altho I do love my pink roses!
the pink roses were from a trip to Adelaide as roses tend to wilt in the heat here. I love roses too π
Yeah the lack of freedom of speech sucks but blogging helps loads.
I can’t seem to comment on her blog, so I’ll leave it here and hope she comes by.
Congratulations on your SITS day. I hope it’s wonderful for you. And I have struggled with panic attacks as well. Finding a good therapist to talk to helped me a lot. Even still, they happen occasionally. Understanding what is happening and working through the things he taught me has given me the power I need to feel in control again.
Best wishes. I hope it’s a great day for you.
Thank you Missrobin….I must read your blog….would love to find out more on coping with panic and anxiety attacks. It’s driving me nuts…so frustrating. and it only started in the past couple of years.
I love meeting bloggers from different parts of the world! Happy Wednesday!
thanks April..so do I π pleased to meet you
I always wanted to live abroad, I will stop by and check it out!
I tried to leave a comment but it seems that I must be a wordpress user in order to do that? Not sure…
I hope I fixed it now and you can comment….
Singapore is the only place in Asia that I’ve ever been. Loved it!
that’s awesome Lynn….must check out your blog
Perpetusl summer sounds nice! Adding to my reader!
Thanks so much Cindi….me like snow π
Singapore… what an amazing place to live! My father toyed with the idea of moving there when I was in college for a job, but decided not to make the move. It sounds like a beautiful place. I’m looking forward to the post about the cultural differences between the US and Singapore– I once heard you can’t chew gum there, I’d love to know if that’s true!
I haven’t chewed gum in years. I missed it at first but now I don’t. I def not have to removed gum stuck to my shoe anymore and that’s nice.
The US sounds awesome to me and I wish it wasn’t sooo far away. The plane ride in cattle class is the thing that puts me off.
I’ve been to Boston, NY and a bit of Orlando and I wish I could visit every State
It looks beautiful, but I couldn’t live there. I need seasons.
I yearn so much for seasons..it gets so boring with just sun or rain
I love Singapore but it’s true it’s hot. I’m glad you mentioned something about real freedom of speech because that is its only flaw, as far as I an see. I went to Singapore for the first time when Sentosa wasn’t even developed yet. My friend and I were the only one on the beach for as far as we could see, although there was a beginning construction site.
Sentosa is super awesome now with the universal studios. I took some pictures and blogged about it. Right now I am just being a tourist in my own country & it’s fun.
Thanks so much for commenting & sharing Jennie π
I love reading about life in other countries. It’s like a whole other world!
I like to think about my country from someone else’s perspective…it makes things interesting
I can’t wait to go read this blog. I love reading blogs from people all over the world.
I love ‘blog travelling’ too…thanks Amy
So very cool! One thing I love about blogging is that it makes the world seem a little bit smaller as I meet people from all over!
Bernice
it’s so lovely how blogs shrink the world….social media is sooo powerful
Can’t wait to visit Singapore even if it’s virtually this morning.
welcome to my world π thanks Mellisa
SOunds so exciting!
thanks Jen
Perpetual summer would NOT work for me!!!
yeah I wouldn’t survive without both the ceiling fans and air-conditioning. I always feel so hot and long for the cold.
I love good photos when reading a blog. I think I’m going to like this one a lot!
I hope you like them Ericka….see ya
Beautiful pictures!!! I love your comment, “I wish we had real freedom of speech”, something to think about….
I often think about that and for that reason sometimes wish I lived elsewhere. but I also try to count my blessings π
Beautiful!
thanks Krista π
Singapore is on my wish list of places to travel someday.
glad I found your blog Elizabeth. I love finding other bloggers in their 40’s and I want to read all about your adoption story. I don’t have any kids, but I adore them and I like being an ‘aunty’ to my friend’s kids.
Texas sounds awesome. I am already thinking about the yummy food there.
Looks beautiful.
I am a yoyo dieter so I need your blog Karen π glad I found you. I love the pun on your blog name.
Ah, I think I’m one of those people who would like the warm weather all year round. Lovely pictures. It looks so beautiful there!
Thank you MommieDaze π Your comment makes me appreciate my country more and not feel as jaded as I normally do.
I agree, I’m not sure I could deal with hot and humid weather all year. And crowds. But the scenery looks incredible and it’s great to read about someone from outside of North America, I must admit!
one thing I would say is that we have the best food in the world because there is so much variety….satay, curry puffs, laksa, oodles of noodles…. Asian and western although I think the american and italian food here is not authentic enough.
Hi bookjunkie!
I’m quite sure you’d love the weather here in Finland right now! π
Not too hot and a lot of daylight……
Finland is one place that sounds like heaven to me π I must check out your blog and live vicariously.
Sounds exciting, off to check it out!
So happy you’re gonna Michelle π
Sounds like an awesome person!
Happy Wednesday, everyone!
B xx
Thank you so much Betty π
i can’t even imagine what perpetual sun and heat would be like, but right about now i think i’d like to find out…sigh…will old man winter ever loosen his grip here?
the day it snows in Singapore I’ll do a dance of joy…..but on second thought that won’t be a very good sign….it would be like that movie with Jake Gyllenhaal when everything froze.
I tried leaving a comment on the featured blog but I was unable to log in to do so.
oops…I hope it’s not a problem with WordPress. Wish I was more tech saavy to figure that out…
I love learning about other cultures and what every day life its like. This should be a fun blog to visit.
Thanks so much Karen. I find culture shock quite fascinating. Love learning more about it.
It looks beautiful there!
thank you so much, but I do get wanderlust every year.
I am sure every day is a vacation to you. I do remember growing up in a tropical weather country it is not fun when you are working in high humidity unless you are by the beach. Wish you all the best looking forward to visit your blog more often. I love your list of being 40.
thank you so much. Before I turned 40 I was so nervous about it. Now 41 seems young…to me at least.
My cousin lived in Singapore for a while. I’ll be curious to check out your blog!
Wow that sounds cool. There are loads of expats in Singapore right now π I love reading their wonderful blogs which are on my blogroll.
I also love reading bloggers outside the US. I have to say though if she likes winter come to the North East because we just woke up to another 5 inches of snow!! I think I will go live vicariously through her blog today because I would much rather be in hot humid weather right about now. COngrats on your sits day!
Thanks Tammy….the snow is calling me…..I am turning on the air-conditioning and fan here, so I don’t melt π
I have to admit, I ended up learning some new stuff about Singapore just from reading Bookjunkie’s “interview”! It sounds like an interesting place. I love learning about other countries and cultures.
I love learning new things too. Especially when I’m broke and can’t fulfill my wanderlust blogs do the trick for me.
She sounds so cool! Has anyone ever taken a spin class? Thoughts?
thanks Blonde Duck…I have never taken a spin class but I puffed through and areobics class when it was the thing in the 90’s
I also feel like I live in perpetual summer. Off to check out her blog, now!
yay Orlando!! π great shopping and all those palm trees…a bit like Singapore but the beaches there must be soo gorgeous.
I love Singapore! We were just there in January. I can’t wait to meet this blogger-thanks for the intro.
Best wishes,
Natasha.
I can’t wait to check out your blog and here about what you experienced while on this tiny island.
Wow! What an interesting blog.
thanks Workmum π
Excited to check this out! What a great opportunity to learn about distant lands!
I wish the US and Europe wasn’t so far away. I would love to visit again but the plane ride puts me off. Meanwhile it’s great that I get to visit through blogs. thanks for the support π
Oh how I long for perpetual summer. Heading over to read more and hopefully see more beautiful pics. Happy Hump Day everyone!
haha perpetual summer is not all it’s cracked up to be…well at least for me cos I radiate heat. I would love to change places with someone who experiences snow all the time π
Going to visit Tiny Island is like going on vacation!
I am sooo glad that you think so Lynn π thanks!!
What wonderful photos… hmmm maybe I should get a passport? In the meantime, I’ll live vicariously through today’s FB!
That’s so nice of you. I find the US amazing and my country just tooo tiny. Although blogging has made me more appreciative of what we have.
Oh wow, I love the pics!! I would love to live in that part of the world, it’s always really appealed to me! I’ve only been to Singapore once and that was for a day when we were traveling in the region, but it seemed like such an interesting city and I only wish we could have spent more time there! Great post!
Aww thanks a million Marsupial Mama.
Singapore really is as clean and green as they say but it’s also super super hot. I yearn for snow which I only experience once in my life when I travelled to Boston.
Happy Wednesday. Halfway through my vacation to Holland now. It is wonderful to be back, even if it’s only for a little while. And now I am off to Singapore.
Thanks for the visit π I have always wanted to visit beautiful Holland myself….now I can…at your blog.
Hello all you lovely ladies!
Anyone playing Wordless Wednesday? Drop by my blog and add your WW entry to my linky party π *mwah*
The last time my husband visited his team in Singapore he found out why they don’t bring donuts in to the office on Fridays. Very different concept of toppings! I have those pink flowers in my backyard!
those pink flowers are from a trip I took to Adelaide Hills, one of my favourite places in Adelaide, Australia. In Singapore roses tend to wilt real fast in the heat. It’s a pity because I love them so.
Caren with a C is cool! It’s nice to be unique.
I must check out your blog……the donut story has hooked me.
love this! added to my reader.
Thanks so much…..I can’t wait to check out your blog as well π I love how SITS brings women who love to write together.
