  • CK says:

The best advice I have gotten is to follow other people’s blogs. That is how you make friends πŸ˜‰

Oh and SITStahs have often given me html codes and other tips to make my blog look better!
    Love it!

  • My best tip would be something I picked up from 31DBBB. End your blog with some sort of question – giving your readers something to respond to.

  • Kirsten says:

My best blogging tip is to just have fun. If it’s not fun, then it’s not worth it.

  • I’m so glad it’s Friday. Happy weekend to everyone!

    Cheers πŸ™‚

  • Please use paragraphs! I refuse to read a blog that is all one giant paragraph. Drives me batty.

And – get rid of the the no reply crap on comments. I like to respond to people that are nice enough to leave me comments πŸ™‚

    Happy Friday!

  • Retha says:

I am going to have to say my biggest blogging tip is to focus on your content first, and fans/followers later. Good content will spread, but always promoting yourself is annoying!

  • Whenever you find yourself thinking, “Oh, yeah, I keep meaning to do that” but you never do–those are usually the things to work on. Sometimes it’s the things that seem too obvious or mundane, and I skip over them, but the simplest things can be the most far reaching, like reading my about page to see if it’s still accurate, or checking for dead links or putting in a new batch of photos.

  • My blogging tip?

Stay true to who you are and keep the passion alive πŸ™‚

    Happy Friday everyone!

Hello from Australia. An enticing read for me would be one that has some truth, humour and intrigue attached to it.

Photos! Love Photos on Blogs! Have a great weekend everyone!

  • Rene W. says:

There just hasn’t been enough time this week… seems like a never-ending cycle. I hope to get back to my blogging schedule soon!

  • Mel says:

Be authentic. Try not to compare yourself to others, even though it can be hard sometimes….just be who you are best…you!:) Most of all, have fun!

  • Dawn says:

Just do it! (okay I stole that from Nike but it works). If you sit around and think about it for too long (writing that blog post, updating your theme, etc), you can talk your self into putting it off or not doing it at all.

  • Nikkolish says:

I have no tips since I’m a relative newbie to blogging. But I have to say that I’m excited about SITS and all the community building. I love making new friends and supporting other women! Girl power =]

  • Dorlita says:

I want to be able to do sweepstakes and give aways on my blog. How do I go about getting the product and things or should I say partner up with companies?

  • Kayli says:

This may sound crazy, but enough w/ the advertising already. I love a good free item every now & then but I feel like all I see sometimes on people’s blogs (what are supposed to be online journals) are advertisements & give-aways. I get so tired of muddling through all that extra stuff on blogs & eventually give up on trying to find the meat of the blog & I never go back. I’d rather read what you’ve written, from your own thoughts, feelings & heart.
    But that’s just me.

  • Great topic for a post/competition. I’m probably repeating a bit of what I said in my own post on Blogging Tips but the best I can think of is make sure no matter what you’re blogging about – food, city guide, parenting tips etc – that your readers get to know you and hear your voice. It’s making that real connection that keeps bloggers unique from other types of media. Keep it real, sitstahs!

  • Angelia Sims says:

The best tip for me has been to be myself. Be as honest and positive as possible. Write a blog about life that I will love reading again and again. Something I can share with others. But most especially, something to remember these moments called living that pass by much too quickly.

  • Susie Kline says:

My best blogging tip is that there are no rules. So many new bloggers I meet are frozen, worried that they won’t do something right or that they don’t have enough posts or their blog doesn’t have the right things.

A blog is an ever-changing entity. Yes, some people have rules, but their rules might not apply to you. As you go along you keep the things that work for you and get rid of the ones that don’t!

Blogging is about fun and being you as only you can be. Getting bogged down in rules or shoulds or musts stifles most people. Just let go, be free, and blog!

  • Carol says:

I could use some ways to get more traffic to my blog. Appreciate any and all tips!

  • Favorite blogging tip? Hum…I like it when people are being real. Cuz when they are not, you can totally tell and it is just annoying. So I guess my tip is to just be real people.

  • Jenny says:

TGIF….I played ‘hookie’ from work today and did absolutely nothing….I should’ve been blogging, but I didn’t even do that! Just needed a ‘ME’ day! :):)

  • My best blogging tip would be to write what you love. And write for yourself. πŸ™‚

  • Shell says:

I think it’s about just keeping it real. I find that hard sometimes when I think of my grandma or other folks reading! πŸ™‚

  • Anne Galivan says:

    Best blogging tip? DON’T QUIT!

Seriously, if you simply don’t give up you will be ahead of the game, because most people don’t have the stick-to-it-iveness to keep going when things get tough.

I’ve only been blogging since May and have already experienced a healthy dose of discouragement and frustration. But I ask myself, am I going to just throw away a project that I have dreamed of for five years because it’s hard? Because I don’t have 1000 subscribers yet? (Heck, I don’t even have 100!)

I suspect that most on the SITS girls’ site, like me, have a LIFE that hasn’t stopped because I have started blogging. Frankly, it hasn’t even slowed down a tad.

So it’s pull-up-the-bootstraps time and don’t give in, give out or give up. Or as Tim Allen said in Galaxy Quest: Never give up, never surrender!

  • Amy says:

My question is what to do about comments. I know citymouse (above) commented that it’s good to respond via email but many people don’t leave their email address and then what if someone asks a question, do I respond via email and in the original comments? I want to communicate well with all my commenters.

  • Missy says:

I think we all need to focus on our content first before anything else. If you do not have good quality content, then your visitors will not return.

  • Jen says:

Find your niche! If you stick to your niche on your blog, it will help you find an audience, keep focus and find your voice.

  • TGIF. I mean Really. Still trying to find the Balance between work, more work, my boys and now Blogging of course. MOst Importantly Im having fun so Its all good.
Started my Blog mainly to tie into my Etsy account. Increase exposure what have you.

So my question is this. Can I blog about normal life topics on there? I don’t have time for another blog just for my own sake.

  • Video! A friend suggested we upload videos to Youtube and add to blog posts. I always get a spike in traffic and more comments when video is included. I plan to do a lot more of this in the future. The Flip Video camera has been our greatest purchase –easy enough that anyone can record, edit and upload video πŸ™‚

  • Linda says:

Well, I think my best blogging tip is to just be yourself! There’s this temptation to write about what’s popular or what you think people want to read about, but your best writing will come out when you are just being yourself. πŸ™‚

  • Still need a shower….

  • tattytiara says:

Best blogging tip? Focus on quality. I honestly can’t think of a higher priority.

  • PJ says:

Well, unfortunately rather than a tip, I have a question. My blog is a Christian Blog on which I write commentaries to different devotionals I read, commentaries on Bible verses and so on. I also do a Bible Challenge at the end of the week and SOMETIMES post about trips my hubby and I go on. My question is this. As you can tell, it takes me FOREVER to say anything or get my point across. I’ve heard that a good post is 300-500 words, and I know that mine (most of the time) goes way over that. What can I do to keep my readers’ interest? I don’t mean for my post to be so long, thoughts just keep coming into my head that I think are pertinent to the post, so I keep typing, on and on and on….

    HELP ME PLEASE!

    God Bless You!

    PJ

    • Kim says:

Edit, edit, and edit again. I have the same tendency as you, and I usually start by writing it all out however it all comes out. All 875 words of it! Then I let it sit. I come back with fresh eyes and see that I can delete or combine sentences . . . get rid of a couple of paragraphs that don’t really go anywhere . . . .realize that the post would be much stronger if I focus on 2 points instead of 5, and cut half of the entire thing to use for a different post on a different day. Then I let it sit. I come back again and see what else isn’t clear or necessary to the post.

Hint: almost always, I can completely delete my first paragraph. The introduction seems so necessary when I first sit down and start writingβ€”the exposition, the back story, the set-up, the details . . . why, my readers NEED all that information in order to understand what I’m about to present. Except they don’t. My first paragraphs almost always end up too boring, weighty, and unnecessary. But I never see it until I’m almost ready to hit publish.

      Good luck!

  • Hey SITStahs! TGIF!!!!

Blogging Tip: Be Personal and respond to your comments and readers! Your readers want to know that you value their loyalty! I always try my best to return comments and follow back my new followers!

  • Nicole says:

Tip: At the end of the day, it’s just a blog. Don’t let it become all consuming.

  • I’m still very new to this, so am figuring it all out myself so these are super helpful tips. My biggest tip is true for all writing: write what you want to write about, what reflects your personality – not what you think others want to read. If you stay true to your blog’s purpose and edit, edit, edit making sure your posts are typo-free with good grammar and spelling, you’ll gain readers.

  • Judy Harper says:

I agree! It’s Friday! Only 1 1/2 more hours to go!

  • Cheryl says:

I love Fridays!!! I just started blogging so I don’t really have any tips but it is so good to read everyone else’s.

  • COMMENT, COMMENT, COMMENT! This is by far one of the best ways to get your own blog readership to grow. You have to be willing to pay it forward…it makes a huge difference!! πŸ™‚

Can’t wait to read other’s tips – Happy Friday all!

  • Alicia says:

I also have a question, it seems like regular post schedule helps your blog as well as commenting on other blogs you visit, but how about events/activities to get your readers/subscribers involved in your blog to the point they want to keep coming back and inviting others. I’d love some ideas on this one… Thanks

    Alicia

  • citymouse says:

I think my best blogging tip is to respond to all your comments via e-mail. It builds a real rapport with your readers. Some bloggers respond in their comment section but your previous commenters will never see that and will never know you’ve responded.

This also brings up my biggest pet peeve… folks who do not have an e-mail associated with there profiles. There’s so many times I want to say something back only to see I’ve just sent an e-mail to no-response@blogger.com!!

  • misssrobin says:

Re-evaluate your blogging purpose every so often. Why did you start? Do you still blog for that reason? It’s easy to get distracted or caught up in what others are doing and lose your focus if you don’t remember why you are doing it.

I blog for the writing, to get ideas out of my head. I like that I have followers, but they aren’t required for me to feel fulfilled as a blog writer. I see what others use their blogs for and reconsider every now and then. Do I want to change?

For me the answer has always been no. The couple of times I tried something everyone else was doing that didn’t quite feel like me, I felt like I’d sold out.

It’s important to stay true to you.

  • Katie says:

When you’re fresh out of ideas, what do you write about?
    XO

    • Mrs.Smith says:

Nothing. Forcing something to blog for the sake of blogging is frustrating. Just sit, wait, ponder and continue living – inspiration will visit you again (always does).

  • Amber says:

Oh my goodness, that is one hell of a giveaway!! I love giveaways!!
I also LOVE this site!! I added the button! YAY! πŸ™‚
I’m new to the blogging scene but I’m loving it so far! I’m finally up to 16 followers–not much but for me, it’s a LOT!! πŸ˜‰

  • Michele says:

If you’re going to do a giveaway, don’t ask me to do 10 different things in order to enter. I have two small children and I’m trying to keep up on my own blog. I don’t have the time to take all those steps.

  • Kristy says:

Best blogging tip is to read and comment for others/returning favors. (Also, post good content and participate in memes)
