Blog link-ups can be a great way to grow your traffic and build your readership. But they only work when you follow the rules – the rules for each individual link-up, and the general blog link-up rules. These steps will help your linky participation to be more fruitful.

Blog Link-Up Rules

This post features my four rules to joining in any link-up. Rules include following the rules of the link up, visiting other blogs, using buttons and linking to hosts, and linking to your actual post, rather than just to your blog.

Thanks for the info! I’m wary of link ups because, like noted above, I’ve spent time commented and never see anything come back to my site… better keep at it, though!

    • I have found the same thing, Madonna. I had all but given up when I decided to the SITS Saturday Sharefest. I was able to connect with a lot of great new blogger friends. I guess it must depend on the group of participants. SITS girls rock. It has renewed my faith in them a little and will keep looking for a few more.

I visited your blog and loved it! It’s nice to meet you. ~Topaz

  • I have not done linkups except Saturday Sharefest due to time restrictions but I am now retired and looking forward to expanding what I do online.

Nice blog that does give some good advice. Thanks.

I often don’t participate in link ups because there are too many rules. I hate when there’s so many that it makes it unfun, or the link up takes over the post rather than actual blog content. Anyway, I enjoyed the total social link up because it was as easy as posting a button.

I can’t wait to read this! I always feel that some people don’t understand link ups so I’m hesitant to join. I don’t want a bunch of junk comments on my blog.

  • Hi Karen

Thanks for sharing these great tips. I’ve never hosted a link-up party on my website even though I have participated on other websites. The goal of linky’s sometimes get lost,[I believe] as many do not readily reciprocate. Hence, I’m not quite sold on the idea/benefits.

  • I am disappointed with Link Ups, I have followed so many people and even left blog comments and in return have had very few who even bothered to come to my website. 🙁

  • I’ve thought of doing a link up on blog but haven’t got around to it. I’m not completely sure of the benefits of hosting a link up are either.
