When we re-launched The SITS Girls back in February, we thought it was high time to overhaul the face of the featured blogger posts. We started adding more images, gave you more content, and made the posts more like an interview.

And in the end, that new strategy worked great…for us.

It seems that y’all love the featured blogger format, but when it comes to clicking through to the featured blogger posts and leaving some comment love, we’re falling a smidge short.

featured post blogger

That’s why, starting tomorrow, we’re getting back to basics. We’re excited to share with you that we have revamped the featured blogger process. Our main goal is to ultimately drive as many comments and page views to the featured blogger’s site as possible! Because of that, we will no longer be sending out interview questions. Instead, what readers will see on The SITS Girls will be just a quick snippet about the featured blogger.

Remember that everything there is to learn about the featured blogger will just be a click away! Your job as as a SITStah is to:

  • Roll Call: Show up here in the Featured Blogger channel as often as you can and leave a comment.  This can be as simple as “Here!”  Another great way to put our website to work for you is to promote whatever is happening on your blog, such as a giveaway, a meme, or even a special post.  Let us know about your site through your comment in the Featured Blogger channel.
  • Leave a Comment on the Featured Blogger’s Blog: This is by far your most important job.  This process works best when we are all making the featured blogger feel special and ensuring that she has a great day!
  • Grab a Button: Be sure you have our button in your sidebar.  When your featured blogger day pops up in our schedule, we’ll quickly run by your blog to make sure it is there.  We also check to see that you have been roll calling.
  • Submit to be a Featured Blogger: Make sure you reserve a spot in our featured blogger schedule by sending us your information.  You can find the submission form here.

We are continually striving to make The SITS Girls as fab and useful as we possibly can.  We love you for sticking around and for being a part of our community!

  • Oh, roll call — I don’t think I’ve ever done that. Have I? Okay, I think I’ve got it now … roll call and a comment on the FB’s site. I can’t wait!

  • She'sWrite says:

I also find myself at a loss sometimes of what to comment, so good to know I’m in good company!

  • mangiabella says:

so thankful for this post, and on tip toe to be the featured blogger soon!! I signed up with the SITS-tah-hood last May 2010 and can hardly wait!!

  • Amanda says:

I think I’m starting to catch on to how all of this works… will try to be a helpful and encouraging commenter from now on!

  • Guilty! I have been lax, myself, about roll call and, well, about everything lately. I hope to be a much better Sitsta!

  • Syreena says:

Nice change 🙂 checking in !

Today I started the insanity workout with the hubs… Anyone tried it yet?

  • Kacey says:

Thanks for the reminder to support other bloggers with comment love. I enjoy reading the featured blogger profiles.

  • Here! Present! Ok, I’ve been bad in not always clicking through to the featured blog. I promise to be better.

  • Capability says:

Here! Present! A-hem! I have been commenting on SITS Featured bloggers but not roll calling – will do from now on!

  • Joyce says:

I’m new to the site and I wasn’t sure what doing “roll call” meant. Now that I know I’ll definitely keep it up!

  • Denise says:

great way to build community 🙂

  • Tracie says:

It is always a good thing to have a reminder to go through and leave a little extra comment love to the featured blogger!

  • Colleeng says:

Well you guys read my mind. I was just telling myself that I need to add Roll Call and visiting the Feature Blogger to my “daily” to do list.

  • Melissa says:

I have been lacking the past couple of weeks, on commenting and I do not think I have ever responded to a roll call. I will get better 🙂

  • See and here I thought the Featured Blogger feature was only a weekly think? You mean to tell me it is a daily thing? *smacking my forehead* I will definitely do better from here on out because I LOVE reading the Blogs you feature!

  • I for one am glad you’re going back to the basics! This new format is so busy with so much information that I think the FB often gets lost in the shuffle.

  • toi says:

I am glad to read that I am not the only one falling short of the commenting :)! I am going to improve from this month. I hope this month is a month for me to improve my blogging again.

Today I am talking about the effect of pregnancy image – how did you feel when you were pregnant?

  • Here 😉

really, though, I am finally here… back from vacation and hopefully, fingers crossed, ready to be back in to blogging our adventures on at least a semi-regular basis!

Thanks for being fabulous! and come check out my cruise pics! They are some fun ones!

  • Sarah B says:

I must say that I’m glad things will be changed up a bit after taking a little break I was a little lost on the roll calling and only commenting on the featured blogger for the most part, glad to get linked back up with roll call 🙂

    Happy Monday ladies!

  • LBDDiaries says:

Oh good! I was just commenting to someone the other day that everyone was writing the FB HERE instead of on their website. So glad you caught that! I try to always leave some comment love and it was easy to get lazy and just leave it here! You guys are the best!

  • MsKatrina says:

Check. Putting this on my ever increasing list of Most Do. Lol.

  • Sara says:

I’m glad you cleared some of this up. I was so confused by the whole roll call thing when I started with SITS about a month ago.

  • Angie says:

As a former featured blogger who has fallen short of leaving comments on others’ blogs I say THANK YOU for the great reminder to take a few minutes every day to leave a nice comment. It truly makes the day so very special for everyone.

  • Maggie S. says:

Weird, I thought the deal was that you comment here, on at least one post of the featured blogger and on the commenter ahead of you in each of those places. Sometimes I ran across posts that I COULD NOT comment on, so I went to the one above that.

Was I doing it wrong? It was time consuming, to be sure.

    • TiffanyRom says:

Well, that’s very sweet to the person ahead of you, but the focus is to give comments to the feature blogger- so make that the priority!

  • Oh roll call, you taunt me with your ease and yet pressure to leave the perfect, succinct comment.

  • Eva Gallant says:

Hello, SITStahs! Hope everyone is having a great day. Check out the unusual museums on my blog today!

  • Lynne says:

Here I am, checking in too 🙂

  • Broot says:

I’d really like to see a reminder to the featured bloggers of when you will be posting their post here, and that they should post their SITS post at the same time, for those of us who are here right after you post. When I click through to the FB and the SITS post isn’t up yet, I tend to go away, intending to come back later when it’s up, but then life happens and I don’t get back there.

Thanks!! Looking forward to the changes.

  • I’ll love this format even better, I think. At the end of a long day, after I’d commented here on the SITS site, my mind would stutter coming up with something different to say, so I’m glad I can just say “Here!” and “Congrats!” here and save the good stuff for the actual blog. Good thinkin’!

  • Allison says:

Awesome! I look forward to seeing the New Old Format. 🙂

  • Leila says:

    Checking in!

  • This sounds great! I try to get to this ‘roll call’ as often as I can as I know it really does MAKE A DIFFERENCE in my blogs. Thanks for all your hard work SITS GIrls! I really appreciate it!

    • I must say that I do try to write comments on BLOGGER accounts, but sometimes it just doesn’t let me. Today I have written a few and they just disappear once I click on ‘submit’. There is no notification that the comment is awaiting approval or anything. So I hope the comments are getting put on. Anyone else having this problem?

      • Tiffany says:

On wordpress, you won’t get a notification that its waiting approval- certain plug-ins will flag any new commenter to be approved, so just trust it’ll work!

  • Kerri says:

So here I am…roll calling. SO glad SITS is going back to basics. Love it.

  • I really love how you guys try to give as much love to the blogger as possible. That’s awesome.

  • Fadra says:

    Checking in!

  • le chef says:

Ok, I’ll just say it. I don’t like reading about giveaways because they are impersonal, and kinda lacking in the personality department … so I usually don’t bother to even click over here to read them – never mind visiting the site. A giveaway once in a while, fine. But every day? Not my thing I guess.

I’m a lady of Indiana Jones tastes; I need excitement outside the home / office, adventures, exotic foods, and evil counterparts.
(Read: hobbies, something other than Mac and Cheese … AGAIN, and interesting lives to live vicariously through.)

I’ve been a mother for 18 years … LET ME OUT OF THE BOX!! – That kind of thing…

    • Broot says:

I agree with you. Too many giveaways and I’m gone, too. I don’t qualify for the majority of them because of where I live!

    • TiffanyRom says:

We never link to a giveaway, so you won’t run into that problem visiting the featured blogger!

    • le chef says:

Groovy. I know some of the featured bloggers *do* giveaways – not that you’re actually linking to one – just the person’s blog who does do them on top of other stuff. So thanks for that – LOL!
Sometimes the person above or below me (commenting) has a giveaway posted as their latest post – those are what I’m referring to in not going to visit. I know we’re suppose to visit … but … ugh.

And I hope this only appears in the reply section – or people may not have a clue what I’m talking about. If so – Ignore this.

      • Tiffany says:

You only need to visit the featured blogger- anything else is icing on the cake.
I’m with you- not a big fan of giveaways… unless its something I *really* want!

  • I wasn’t sure what “Roll Call” meant and asked this question on the forum months ago without a response. Thank you for clarifying this.

I try to comment here on the SITS site whenever I can and I admit I haven’t been clicking through to the featured blog. Sometimes I don’t have any value to add to the featured blog post, so it’s helpful to know a simple “here” response will suffice on the SITS site.

What’s the etiquette for commenting on the featured blog site if I’m struggling to leave a value-added comment?

    Have an awesome day!

  • What a fantastic idea and a great way to support each other!

  • Vicki says:

I’m here … and trying to get into commenting & participating more … but I’m confused as to where exactly the ‘roll-call’ is?!

    • TiffanyRom says:

Roll call is leaving a comment on the daily featured blogger post.

The comment you left today would be considered a roll call.

While we need you to leave a comment on the days you come by to track your participation, we REALLY want you leaving a comment for the featured blogger.

  • Joanne says:

Been working on roll calling. I occasionally miss a day here or there. Sometimes I backtrack to get people I missed. I have a question- when I applied to be a featured blogger months ago, I never received an acknowledgement for the application. Is that typical or should I have received one?

    • Joanne says:

Is there anyone out there who can answer my question above? I do seem to have trouble getting any answers to any questions whether I leave them in a comments section of a post like this or the community forums. Trying to connect. Feeling a bit invisible sometimes:(

    • TiffanyRom says:

      Hi Joanne,

Yes, there is an auto response.

Can you email me the email address you used to submit?

      sitsgirls at gmail dot com

  • Love this site… 🙂 another SITStah told me about it and as of yesterday I am now fully prepared to comment as much as possible 🙂 🙂 🙂

  • mindy says:

I like the roll call and you’re right, when the interviews were done here, there didn’t seem as pressing a need to go visit the actual blogger’s site. I’m not the best at commenting sometimes but I love being a SITStah!

  • Great idea! I try to check in as much as possible but will try to do better. 🙂

  • CynthiaK says:

Absolutely! Comments, roll call, button… got it!

  • Pam says:

I’ve been falling short on commenting too. I promise to improve!

  • Thanks for reminding us to visit the FB sites. Admittedly, I’ve been falling short on that. I’ll visit, but not always leave a comment. I’ll do better!
