As a blogger, working with brands can be exciting, especially when you come across an opportunity that will drive traffic and attention to your site. As you get caught up in that anticipation, it’s easy to keep saying “yes” to whatever you’re being asked to do.
The hard part comes when you take a step back and evaluate a company’s intentions. What is the company’s ultimate goal with a campaign? Are you comfortable with it? Are the company’s expectations a match with your blog?
Even more important is to recognize that when a company’s expectations do not match your own…it’s time to walk away.
And that is what we did.
The Halloween event and camera giveaway that we have been eagerly working on and anticipating for weeks will not be happening as it was originally designed. And while we’ve chosen not to follow through with the sponsor, we are following through on our commitment to you.
Tomorrow we will launch our three day Halloween themed event and sponsor it ourselves. Get ready to link up your posts on SITS because each entry you complete will bring you closer to winning a Canon Rebel T2i. (If you missed the writing prompts, you can find them here.)
Working with companies can be a beautiful thing. The partnership you create has the potential for a number of mutually beneficial results for your blog and a brand. On SITS, we have successfully launched and executed many campaigns and always welcome new ideas and brands to partner with.
What’s important is that your message and goals match whoever you’re working with.
Tomorrow is going to be a very big day. We can’t wait to see everyone’s entries.
Happy blogging, friends!

Wow you girls are the best – I really understand about walking away from a brand you don’t agree with even if the giveaway is fabulous.
But sponsoring the giveaway yourself really shows your commitment to the community – thanks for being so honest with us.

Hi everyone!
It’s funny that you wrote about this, because I just changed the appearance of my blog and have a post scheduled for this week about what my personal brand is.
roll call!
happy halloween!
So excited about the giveaway, but glad you stuck to your gut about working with the sponsors. I have been contacted by a couple of sponsors, and though I would like the sponsorship and traffic, it just wasn’t my blog. I don’t want to be seen as a sell out, or someone who is a “contest/giveaway whore”…haha!
Thanks again!
