When you first start a blog, you’re on fire. You post almost every day, comment on lots of other blogs, find your tribe, and participate in memes and link ups. But as time passes, your enthusiasm might slip and life occasionally (often?) gets in the way. You find yourself posting a few times a month and then blogging about how you’re not blogging. Sound familiar?
We all lose our mojo from time to time. Here are some tips for keeping the blogging fires burning bright:
- Get your ideas down. How many times have you had an idea for a blog post, then lost it before you had the time to sit down and flesh it out into a post? Keep a notebook with you at all times to jot down your thoughts and ideas. Type post drafts whenever you can so you can come back to them and develop them when you have time.
- Make the time. Work hard to follow some sort of routine. If your goal is to be a professional blogger, what you really want to be is a professional writer. That means you have to make the time to work at the craft of writing, even when you might not want to. Decide when, where, and how often you can make the time to write, then do it.
- Write for your readers. Don’t think “What do I want to blog about?”, think “What do my readers want to read about?” Answer a question or address a comment. Revisit an idea that got your lots of comments in the past. Help your readers solve a problem, and they’ll be loyal followers for years to come.

I am fairly new to blogging, but it is so much fun!
Thanks for some great ideas! I do sometimes struggle with coming up with posts when I don’t have a project to share.
Shannon is the largest independent retailer of Waterford Crystal, Orrefors, Kosta Boda and Swarovski.
This article is so how I feel right now. I just recently started blogging and I’ve been having a blast learning how to connect to FB, Twitter and writing has been like finding an addiction I forgot I had.
I am a busy mom of two young boys and just recently quit my job of almost 9 years. I am in love with blogging, but can see how the fire can quickly die especially when you are first up and running and looking for followers.
Please, check out my site and let me know what you think. I welcome any tips or advice. Thanks!

I love finding half-finished posts in my drafts. For days when I just cannot think of a topic, these really come in handy!
I’m recently got married and moved to Pittsburgh, so my husband could start dental school. I don’t see him very often. And NO we are not pregnant. People keep asking, and I’m starting to get a complex…

Great tips :0)
I love sharing alittle of life and lots of my creative process and projects. I try to keep it upbeat, but life is life so sometimes it gets a little real…

These are great tips. I keep a Moleskine notebook in my purse to jot down blogging ideas. And keeping an editorial calendar really helps me to schedule my posts.

Thanks for the tips!
I try to keep my posts a mixture of venting/sharing what interests me/sharing what readers enjoy.
So far I am loving being able to express myself on my blog!

I read this blog at just the right time. I needed a little pick me up to keep me going!
I am laughing!! I totally lost my mojo. Exhibit A: How late I am reading this post!! Putting some things in place that will hopefully help me avoid future mojo loss.
Thanks for the tips!
It’s reassuring to know that I’m not the only one going through a deflation in my blog mojo. How in the heck did life suddenly get so busy? I miss my SITStas and regular writing, and am slowly, but surely making my way back to a balanced routine. Thanks for the great tips and support ladies. I’m excited to visit my SITSta above ~ tickled “pink” to read about that little dog… Jenn

One of my more fun posts was about my sweet sister’s little pup Laci..she had just had her groomed and the groomer had used veggie dye to color her ears pink. this was for a Pink Saturday post!
I’ve definitely lost my blog mojo – but my blog WAS about my business, and my production for the retail side has slowed considerably. Hopefully soon I can ramp that back up! 🙂

It is definitely hard to nail down a routine when you’re a SAHM. Kids’ schedules change at the drop of a hat, at least the little ones. I try to make blogging my morning ritual during nap time with my cup of coffee or I do it at night after the wee one has gone to bed. It’s much easier to focus when I have a few hours to focus on one thing.

Excellent ideas. I try to make blogging and morning coffee work together. Then, I have the rest of the day to follow my list of things to do that day. Thanks for the reminder.
So I missed sharefest Saturday because I was doing a flea market all day in 90+degree weather and now it is after midnight on Sunday which really makes it Monday so I guess this probably doesn’t count towards sharing in the fest for the day before yesterday -lol lol

As a professional writer, I have to disagree on one point that you made in the ‘Mojo’ post.
I don’t think writing for your readers is always the angle to take when blogging. I’ve written many published articles, and have 2 blogs.
One of my blogs is written for business, which is primarily for the reader, and the other is written usually to ‘get it off my chest’ – whatever IT is at the moment. I’ve found that the 2nd blog usually gets more feedback and commentary – both in writing and in person – than I ever imagined.
In this age of infomercial blogging, I think oftentimes the reader just wants to read true, first person real-life stories and anecdotes, instead of what the writer thinks they want to read.
Definitely feel myself losing my blogging mojo right about now…

What great tips!!! I definitely have lost my mojo at times…

I haven’t quite mastered the art of writing my blog posts ahead of time. I still think they need to be done using the Just In Time method of operation (I’m a total JIT geek from grad school!). Always learning, though. Always learning.

I try to stay on track by doing large blogging chunks at a time. I’ll delay post about 2 months worth of blogs, which makes it nice. That way you spread out all your good ideas :)!

I really ought to start a notebook. I currently have bits and pieces of scrap paper scattered around the house with blog post ideas hastily jotted down – then they become coasters, dead spider picker uppers, etc.
I’ve been putting a lot of pressure on myself with regard to my blog lately. It’s too stressful. Right now I need to concentrate more on my family and stay true to who I am (and I’m still trying to figure out who that is). These means I’ll probably cut out some memes, commenting, and so forth, but I’ve got to reduce my anxiety somehow and I think this is the way.

Okay, I know I’m late to the party but I tried submitting a comment about 4 times yesterday and it wouldn’t work!! I just commented on the giveaway post, so maybe this will work now!
I definitely do the idea list – I keep a saved draft in my email so I can access it no matter where I am. I always prefer to write when the mood strikes, but sometimes I can’t because of my crazy toddler! It’s nice to remember good ideas I had when I have time to sit down again.
Anyway, I’m going to say hello to whoever posted before me, even though I’m a day late!! 🙂

This post actually inspired me to take a little idea that I’d been mulling over and turn it into a post. Thanks!!! I’m very glad to have stumbled accross this network. I hope to expand both my reading and my readership.
My lack of blogging experience is showing! I commented here earlier, and also commented on the one above mine, New Jersey Memories (thanks for your comment here!) After reading NJM’s comment about needing to be a WordPress subscriber to comment I checked out WP’s help section about it. It turns out that I had a box checked in comment settings that should be unchecked to get comments from people other than WP users. Sorry!
It’s fixed now!
